Privacy Policy
We treat your data the way we'd want our own treated: minimally collected, never sold.
1. Who we are
Shortsey is a fashion discovery app that lets you find clothing through a swipe interface, available on iOS and Android. Shortsey is the data controller for all personal data processed through the app and website. For questions about this policy, contact us at [email protected].
2. What data we collect
Account information
- First name (required), last name (optional)
- Email address and date of birth
- Gender / shopping department (men's, women's, or everything)
- Profile picture (optional)
- Login method (Apple, Google, or email)
Style preferences
- Clothing styles, budget preference, clothing and shoe size preferences
- Lifestyle (optional, via My Style)
Swipe behavior
We store every interaction you make in the app: likes (swipe right), skips (swipe left), favorites (swipe up), tapping through to a product, and sharing a product. This is the core of how the app works — without it, the feed cannot be personalized.
Community
When community sharing is enabled (on by default), your likes and favorites are visible to other users, along with your first name, last name (if set), and profile picture (if set). You can turn this off in app settings.
Device information
- Platform (iOS or Android), device model, and app version
- Timezone and push notification token
3. Why we process it & legal basis
- Creating your account and personalising the feed — performance of contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR)
- Community functionality — consent: you choose whether to participate
- Push notifications — consent: given via the permission prompt in the app
- In-app advertising (AdMob) — consent: given via the consent prompt at installation
- Detecting and resolving crashes and errors — legitimate interest: necessary for stable app operation
- Security and abuse prevention — legitimate interest
4. Automated profiling
Shortsey builds a taste profile based on your swipes. Every like, skip, and favorite adjusts this profile. The profile determines which products you see — the more you swipe, the more personal your feed becomes.
This is a form of automated profiling within the meaning of the GDPR (Art. 22). It is the core of our service: without this profile, personalization does not work.
You have the right to object to this profiling. You can update your clothing style preferences at any time through My Style. For a full reset, contact us at [email protected] or delete your account.
5. Affiliate links and commission
Shortsey displays products from external webshops through the Awin affiliate network. If you click through to a product and make a purchase, Shortsey earns a commission. This does not affect the price you pay. When you click through to a webshop, Awin tracking technologies may become active on the external site. Shortsey has no control over what happens on external websites.
7. How long we retain your data
- Account information: as long as your account is active, plus 30 days after deletion
- Swipe behavior and taste profile: as long as your account is active
- Device data and push tokens: as long as your account is active
- Session tokens: until expiry
- Crash logs (Firebase, Sentry): 90 days
- Community posts: hidden on opt-out; deleted when account is deleted
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the following rights:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Rectification — correct inaccurate data (also directly in the app)
- Erasure — delete your account and all associated data, in the app or by contacting us
- Objection — object to profiling or processing based on legitimate interest
- Portability — receive your data in a readable format
- Restriction — request that we temporarily restrict processing
For access, portability, and objection requests, email [email protected]. We respond within 30 days.
9. Children
Shortsey is not intended for persons under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us at [email protected].
10. Changes
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will notify you by email. The date of the last update is always shown at the top of this page.
11. Filing a complaint
If you believe we are not processing your data correctly, you have the right to file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority at autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl or +31 88 - 1805 250.
